Ski/Snowboard School
The Otsego Club's Winter Sports School prides itself on providing the best — the most proficient and enthusiastic staff and optimal terrain for mastering new skills. Instructional options are designed to maximize and enhance not only your on-hill abilities, but your overall Otsego Club experience!
Our specialists focus on teaching, which includes traditional lessons for alpine, snowboard and cross country enthusiasts, as well as specialized clinics and packages.
Our specialists will help you determine which type of gear will give you the competitive edge or the confidence to turn skiing and boarding into a lifelong passion. Our ski and snowboard rental center carries a variety of shaped skis from recreational models to powder skis and freeride snowboards.
Introduce your children to the thrill of winter fun! Your children will feel comfortable in the hands of our talented specialists at our Children's Ski & Snowboard School. Each instructor combines excellent teaching skills with a sparkle and smile that will leave your children wanting more! Options include early-morning drop-offs, lunch/supervision or, if your little ones are too young for the hill, take advantage of our child care center. Program Details
- Private lessons taught by O.C. Youth Instructors are recommended for children sized tiny through age three.
- Private lessons for these brand new beginners will primarily focus on learning about the equipment attached to students’ little bodies & having fun in our snowy Otsego Club wonderland.
- Additional skills such as walking, climbing, straight runs on gentle slopes, sliding wedges, breaking wedges, wedge change ups, & independent use of tow rope will be taught as students progress in one-on-one private lessons.

Program Details
- O.C. Youth Ski Academy is recommended for children aged 3-7 years.
- Prerequisites for entering this program are as follows: 1.) Students must be potty trained. 2.) Students must be able to independently & safely use tow rope. 3.) Students must be able to independently & safely control speed in beginner’s area.
- Students in this program will work on terrain of north & south pantywaist, #1, #2.
- Students will methodically work through the following PSIA goal progressions:
- Beginner 2 Goals
- Linked Wedge Turn, Narrow Stance, Control Speed With Turn Shape, Chair Lift Use
- Advanced Beginner Goals
- Matching Skills After Fall Line, Begin Wedge Christy With Forward Motion
- Intermediate 1 Goals
- Advanced Wedge Christy, Matching Skis On Or Before Fall Line, Turn Skidding Into More Carving
- Intermediate 2 Goals
- Open Parallel Turns, Steering Both Skis In Direction Of Turn, Some Upper & Lower Body Separation, Forward Motion, Increased Carving
- Advanced 1 Goals
- Pole Swing, More Angulation, Less Skid, Medium Radius Turns
- Advanced 2 Goals
- Anticipation, Forward Motion, Angulation, Carving The Ski, Hockey Stops

Focus
Skiing with young toddlers and children is enjoyable once the game plan is in place. Join Abby Saturday mornings to hear some of the “tips and tales” for teaching snow play slope side that she has acquired over her tenure of 3.5 years as a parent & 15 years as an Otsego Club Ski Instructor.
Tips shall include, but not be limited to the following:
Child-Centered Instruction Relating To Safe Use of Tow Rope, Chair Lifts, Ski Equipment, Tip Ties, Hula Hoops, Harnesses, Bamboo Poles, Ski Pole V’s, Use of Snow Cat, Clothing Layering, Frost Bite Prevention, Strategic Potty Breaks & Bathroom Locales, Laundering Services, O.C.Youth Ski Academy Information, Daytime & Nighttime Otsego Club Child Care Options, Private Childcare Options, etc. Additionally, Representation From Childrens’ Activities Laision Committee Chair Available
